Support for widgets was shipped with Lotus Notes 8.0.1 for Windows (currently not supported with the Linux client 8.0.1). In this tutorial I will try to explain how to add your own widgets.
First make sure that you have enebled the optional widget support in your preferences. The use of a catalog server is optional and not necessary for this example.
Open your companies Domino Directory, this is a database names.nsf on your mailserver, and navigate to the person view.
Use the widget configuration button to start creating your own widget.
Choose "Perform a full text search on this Notes view".
I changed the components name to "Search Domino Directory". I am going to wire this as an action.
I want to use the "Person Recognizer" to use a persons name for the full text search. The result will come up in a new tab in Lotus Notes.
Done.
My new widget is now listed in the "My Widgets" sidebar.
To test the result I open an email from my sent folder (or any other email). The person recognizer underlines my name with a dotted blue line.
You can configure how Live Text will highlight the text.
If you use a right mouse click on the name, you can invoke the new widget.
Your widget will open the Domino Directory and search for the name.
